Tungsten
Tungsten heavy alloys are ideal for high-density applications or for use in radiation shielding. Heavy metal tungsten alloys are 90% to 97% pure tungsten in a matrix of nickel and copper or nickel and iron. The addition of these alloying elements improves both the ductility and machinability of these alloys over non-alloyed tungsten.
We stock alloy as:
rod
bar
plate
sheet
CORNMAX can custom machine any alloys to finished parts according to your specifications. We carry an extensive inventory of tungsten alloys and provide quick turnaround for those items not in stock.
Molybdenum
Like tungsten, molybdenum is one of the refractory metals. It does not have the density of tungsten, but still has a relatively high melting point and is somewhat easier to machine.
CORNMAX provides and stock molybdenum as:
rod
bar
plate
sheet
We also provide material trays, heat shields, nuts, and threaded rod for the vacuum furnace industry, as well as glass melting electrodes and vacuum evaporation boats.

Tantalum
Tantalum (Ta) is a refractory metal. Tantalum is quite soft compared to tungsten or even molybdenum. The density and melting point of tantalum lies between that of tungsten and molybdenum.
Tantalum is often used in capacitors or other electronic devices and is often also used to alloy other metals. Its high corrosion resistance is useful in chemical reaction pipes and vessels such as vacuum furnaces and nuclear reactors, allowing corrosion-resistant properties at high temperatures while minimizing product contamination. Its high thermal conductivity is useful in equipment such as heat exchangers and distillation equipment.
We offer the following grades, to ASTM B708:R05200, unalloyed tantalum, electron-beam furnace or vacuum-arc melt, or both,R05400, unalloyed tantalum, powder-metallurgy consolidation,R05255, tantalum alloy, 90 % tantalum, 10 % tungsten, electron-beam furnace of vacuum-arc melt, or both,R05252, tantalum alloy, 97.5 % tantalum, 2.5 % tungsten, electron-beam furnace or vacuum-arc melt, or both, andR05240, tantalum alloy, 60 % tantalum, 40 % niobium, electron-beam furnace or vacuum-arc melt.
Midwest Tungsten stocks and can also provide custom sizes of ≥99.95% pure tantalum as well as 99.99% min pure tantalum in ingot, rod, bar, wire, tube, crucible, plate, target, sheet and foil form.
